Deer in Trentino: Here’s Where

Published on 8 November 2025 by Alessandra Prandi

Did you know that in Trentino-Alto Adige there are several places where you can get a close-up look at deer and roe deer, as well as other animals that normally elude our sight… hidden in the woods? These are nature reserves that are home to animals that were found injured—and would die if released back into the wild—or to animals born in captivity.

Here’s where you can admire them in all their beauty:

PANEVEGGIO VISITOR CENTER

Shortly after Predazzo, in Val di Fiemme, you’ll find a viewing area overlooking the large enclosure that’s home to a beautiful herd of deer. We recommend taking a walk along the Marciò Trail through the “Forest of Violins” and across the suspension bridge—a one-hour walk starting from the visitor center. Click HERE for more information.

PEIO WILDLIFE AREA

The wildlife area is located a short distance from the Pejo 3000 ski lift departure point and can be easily reached on foot in about ten minutes. Here you can see roe deer, but above all, plenty of red deer: the best time to visit is when the caretakers feed the animals, around 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Open every day of the year. More information HERE.

When it snows, the deer reveal themselves in all their majestic beauty

FAZZON AREA AT LAGO DEI CAPRIOLI

In Pellizzano, near this beautiful body of water, a wildlife enclosure has been built that is home to several deer. To see them, take the trail behind the visitor center in the direction away from the lake. Find all the information HERE.

CAORIA WILDLIFE AREA

In Primiero, in the beautiful Vanoi Valley, there is a wildlife area visible from the road leading to Canal San Bovo that is home to several deer. Don’t miss these nearby attractions: a walk to Lake Calaita and, for young climbers, the new Ferrata della Scala.

VILLA AGNEDO WILDLIFE RESERVE

At the foot of Castel Ivano, in Valsugana, there is a vast area home to a beautiful herd of deer, accompanied by a small pond with fish and mallards. If you visit at the right times—early in the morning or at dusk—you can admire them in all their splendor. Sometimes they even let you get close. More information HERE.

CERVI SOMPUNT PARK – VAL BADIA

In Val Badia, easily accessible from the state highway, there is a deer park that’s perfect to visit in any season. About thirty red deer and fallow deer live in this fenced-in area of woods and pastures. Along the trail, which runs alongside the enclosure and is partially accessible with a hiking stroller in the summer, there are informational signs and observation points. At the nearby Paraciora mountain hut (which is located right on the ski slopes in winter), you can also pick up the Deer Quiz (or download it HERE) to complete during your visit. Admission is free. The deer can also be seen in winter. All the info HERE

DEER ENCLOSURE IN VALLARSA

Along the new “Lupus in Fabula” themed trail in Camposilvano (Vallarsa), a short detour takes you to the deer enclosure: about ten deer born in captivity that cannot be reintroduced into the forest. More info HERE.
