With such beautiful weather, it would be a real shame to spend the weekend at home. So here we are to come to your rescue with some suggestions for easy-to-reach spots (even for those who might be worn out from the workweek and would otherwise be tempted to stay on the couch!) where you can enjoy a good meal—perfect for recharging and spending a carefree day. All of these places have been tried (and approved) by us.
Nino Pernici Mountain Hut – Val di Ledro
Just a short walk away, this mountain hut offers great food and a stunning view of the entire southern part of Trentino. If you can, stay the night: the sunrise here is a riot of colors. Here’s our story: A Stunning Sunrise at the Pernici Mountain Hut! Open in October, closed in November. Info and reservations: 📞 366 3000522
San Pietro Mountain Hut – Tenno
Just a short walk through the woods, this mountain lodge offers stunning views of Lake Garda. Outside, there’s a sunny panoramic terrace and a nice playground, while inside, the space is small but warm and welcoming: on rainy days, dining by the stove is a real pleasure! We tell you all about it in “San Pietro: A Balcony Over Lake Garda.” Also open for dinner, by reservation. Tel. 0464 791003

Malga Sauch Mountain Hut – Val di Cembra
What appears to children today as a “magical maze” actually began as a system for hunting birds. The practice is now banned, but the “structure” remains and sparks the imagination. You can reach this very special place after a lovely walk through nature (here are the various options: The Roccolo del Sauch Maze). The lodge is open on Saturdays and Sundays for lunch and snacks. Reservations are required: 📞 339 7805699.
Kaserbisn Hitt – Val dei Mocheni
Sunny location, with opportunities for leisurely walks in the surrounding area—even with a hiking stroller—and, most importantly, open practically year-round (closed on Tuesdays), even on weekdays. You can also get there by car, but we recommend the walk that starts at the Van Spitz Restaurant. The Prati Imperiali and the village of Kiserech are stunning in their fall colors. More details: Val dei Mocheni: at Kaserbisn Hitt. Reservations are always recommended📞 348 816 3490.
Malga Cimana – Vallagarina
You can get there by car or by taking a lovely walk from Lake Cei, which is stunning this time of year with its fall foliage. Surrounded by the warm colors of autumn, you can enjoy a delicious lunch while the kids play on the lawn. Open daily until mid-October and then on weekends. Campei Mountain Hut – Monte Baldo
To reach the mountain hut, you’ll enjoy a beautiful hike on Monte Baldo with panoramic views. It’s a 5.5-kilometer hike to reach the mountain hut at an elevation of 1,470 meters: from here, however, you can admire a magnificent panorama—the peaks of Adamello, the Brenta Dolomites, the Lagorai, the Marmolada, all the way to the Lessini Mountains. Our story: Campei Mountain Hut: Views and Flavors. The refuge is open through the end of September on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. No reservation is needed for lunch, but one is required for dinner and overnight stays. Please call to confirm opening hours 📞 3802360655
Lago Nambino Mountain Hut – Campiglio
A lovely family hike starting from the Patascoss parking lot, in the heart of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. The little lake is very picturesque this time of year. We, on the other hand, had been there in the summer; we wrote about it here: Lake Nambino: A Corner of Paradise. In the fall, it’s open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through the end of October. Info and reservations: 📞349749 3492
Casarota Mountain Hut – Vigolana Plateau
The trail leading to the Casarota Mountain Hut runs almost entirely through the woods; it is well-marked and of moderate difficulty. It starts near the Sindech Restaurant. The elevation gain is about 500 meters, and it takes about an hour to reach the refuge. The hike requires children to be in good physical condition. Our experience at: At the Casarota Mountain Hut in Vigolana. Always open on weekends. For info and reservations 📞 0464 783677 – 348 0985560
Stablasolo Alpine Hut – Val di Rabbi
It’s just a short walk away (you can also go by e-bike or stroller) along a forest road; leave your car at the nearby Coler Parking Lot. It’s located near the Saent Waterfalls, in a truly unparalleled natural setting. Click HERE for more details. Open daily through November 2 for lunch (dinner by reservation only). For information and reservations 📞 388 863 9582.
Castrin Alpine Pasture – Upper Val di Non
It’s located in the heart of the Maddalene Mountains, in the Upper Val di Non, and is easily accessible via a walk suitable for everyone. The cuisine is delicious, featuring local specialties, including their cheeses and cold cuts. The meat is excellent. The view is enchanting and captures all the charm of this borderland between Trentino and South Tyrol. For kids, there’s a fantastic playground with zip lines, slides, and climbing walls! Read Super Playground at Malga Castrin. Open in October on Saturdays and Sundays; overnight stays are also available. For info and reservations 📞 388 879 9397
Revò Alpine Hut – Upper Val di Non
Located along the Proves Alpine Pastures Trail, it is just past Malga Cloz—which is also open on weekends—and can be reached by continuing along the same trail. Open until All Saints’ Day. For information and reservations 📞 348 2124868.
Malga Campo – Alpe Cimbra
In one of the most authentic spots in Trentino lies the charming Malga Campo, nestled amid the most beautiful natural scenery of Luserna, a small linguistic enclave where the Cimbrian language is still spoken. It can be reached after a short walk (about 20 minutes) from the village of Luserna or after a longer hike along the beautiful “Sentiero tematico dell’Immaginario” trail (read HERE). Open Saturdays and Sundays for lunch through early November; reservations are always highly recommended for dining indoors 📞 347 9755969.
