From the mountain pastures down to the valley by sled

Published on 1 January 2026 by Elisa

A truly tempting combination? A fun sled ride down the snowy slopes combined with delicious, homemade food from the mountain huts! Some mountain huts rent out sleds for the trip down to the valley, while at others you need to bring your own. There are so many places to visit with our children, and we’re slowly trying to discover them all. Here’s a comprehensive list of mountain huts with sledding runs:

Mountain huts with sled rentals

Malga Fratte – Val di Rabbi

From the village of Plan, a hike through the snow, crossing the suspension bridge to the Fratte mountain hut. It takes about an hour and a half to reach the mountain hut at 1,480 meters; alternatively, you can take a snowmobile up the hill. Here, too, after recharging your energy, you can sled down to your car using rental sleds. At the end of the ride, you can leave your sled at the designated spot.

Stablasolo Alpine Hut – Val di Rabbi

This mountain hut, open on weekends during the winter, is located at the end of the Val di Rabbi, a short distance from the beautiful Saent Waterfalls. You can reach it from the nearest parking lot or from the suspension bridge in about an hour on foot, or by booking the snowmobile service offered by the hut. On the way back, you can rent a sled for 5 euros and race back down to the valley at full speed!

Gampen Alpine Pasture – Val di Funes

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Odle, a roughly one-and-a-half-hour hike takes you to the Gampen mountain hut at 2,060 meters. If you’d like to have dinner at the lodge, you can also use the toboggan run at night.
