Inclusive Playgrounds in Trentino

Published on 25 August 2022 by Manuela Zennaro

Playgrounds are a big hit with kids: in Trentino-Alto Adige, there are some truly special ones that let everyone—including those who use wheelchairs—have fun and play.

We’ve summarized them for you, in the hope that these special playground structures won’t be removed for safety reasons or damaged in the meantime—as has, unfortunately, already happened. We’d appreciate your help in reporting other playgrounds, if you know of any, so we can make this article even more useful. Also, if you learn that any play equipment has been removed, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

In the meantime, here’s an initial list—which we’re constantly updating!

MEZZOCORONA (TN) – Renato de Barbieri Park, on Via Dante (below City Hall), accessible swing, no key required.

Mezzocorona

OLTRECASTELLO (TN) | Municipal playground, accessible swing (no keys required). The first of its kind to be installed in Trentino. Open to the public.

Oltrecastello Playground

PREDAZZO (TN) | Loze playground, near the sports field and across from the restaurant of the same name.

TRENTO | Enzo Tortora Park, on Viale Verona —A playground designed in collaboration with Anffas, the nonprofit organization that cares for people with disabilities. In addition to the two play areas—one for beach volleyball on sand and one for basketball on asphalt coated with acrylic resin (protected by six-meter-high ball-stop nets)—and the pathways made of bleached asphalt, with tactile tiles at seating areas and other locations to assist the visually impaired, there are two children’s play areas. These are paved to ensure accessibility for wheelchairs and feature steel and wooden play structures organized by age group.

TREVILLE – PREORE (TN) | “Al Poz” Park in Preore. There is a swing for children with disabilities designed to accommodate a wheelchair. For safety reasons, the keys to this structure are kept at the bar in the town of Preore.

RIVA DEL GARDA (TN) | Porta Orientale Gardens, south of the Rocca Canal. There are three inclusive play structures in the park: a swing with a seat that can be secured with a harness, a rocking basket, and a small castle-like structure. The poured rubber surface is also important, as it makes the ground easier to navigate for wheelchairs (cover photo)

ARCO (TN) | Central Gardens. There are no dedicated play structures, but there are some play equipment items with spacious seats and ground-level access, such as the merry-go-round with the yellow seat shown in the photo. These are accessible to people with minor mobility issues.

ARCO (TN) | Via Caduti di Cefalonia Park. A 1,200-square-meter park featuring swings, a slide, a pyramid with a climbing net, a spinning ride, and play equipment suitable for children with disabilities. It is located near the Arco–Torbole bike path, and the playground equipment is installed on safety rubber flooring.

TUENNO – VILLE D’ANAUNIA | Playground on Via Marconi. New playground equipment for everyone, surrounded by plenty of greenery, just a short walk from downtown.
