The sea is always the sea, but the mountains—with their azure lakes and peaks reflected in crystal-clear waters—are just as stunning. Sometimes, though, you just want to take a dip, whether to cool off or have some fun: but which lakes in Trentino are suitable for swimming? Here are the ones we particularly like.
Lake Garda
Let’s start with what everyone knows: Lake Garda. The Trentino shores are the perfect place to spend a day at the beach enjoying sports: the morning is ideal for trying your hand at stand-up paddleboarding or canoeing. In the afternoon, however, as the wind picks up after noon, the waters are ideal for sailing sports: windsurfing, wing-foiling, and sailing. You’ll find several schools offering equipment rentals and endless dining options on the wide beaches of Riva del Garda and Torbole. The beaches are pebbly, with large grassy and tree-lined areas, as well as playgrounds for children and teens. The bike path running along the entire lakefront and connecting it to neighboring towns is extremely convenient.
Lake Levico
A beautiful, peaceful place surrounded by lush nature and perfect for a day out with the kids. There are plenty of playground equipment in the park near the beach: climbing walls, swings, seesaws, slides, and even sand to play in—just like at the beach. At La Taverna Beach Club, you’ll find umbrellas, a heated pool, and a long slide that leads straight into the water. Here, we’ll tell you about the Levico Lake Tour.

Lake Caldonazzo
Here’s where you can go swimming in Valsugana! Lake Caldonazzo, the largest lake located entirely within the province of Trentino, is definitely the valley’s most popular vacation spot. It features wide beaches (Valcanover and Calceranica being the best known) and numerous amenities (bars, restaurants, playgrounds, pedal boat rentals, and schools where you can practice water sports), with waters that are particularly mild in temperature. How about a sailing course? The lake was awarded the Blue Flag again in 2023.
Lake Molveno
The beautiful Lake Molveno is also very popular with families. This glacial lake always has fairly cool water, even in summer, but Molveno Beach is a true paradise: from the fantastic playground featuring a huge galleon to climb on, to the outdoor pool directly accessible from the beach— Acquapark Molveno. The beach is free to use, with a pebble shore, grassy spots, and shaded areas. There are bars and restaurants on site. Parking is plentiful, but starting in the summer of 2026, Molveno will also be easily accessible by bus from Trento, thanks to the Bye Bye Car service! The center of Molveno is within walking distance. You can also head upto the Pradel Plateau, where many activities for children are offered in the summer. Down in the valley, the walk along the Massò stream is beautiful and refreshing .
Lake Tenno
A stunning alpine lake with turquoise-emerald waters, surrounded by greenery and featuring a small central island that intrigues even the most adventurous children. Sometimes you can reach it on foot if the water level is low, but if the water is high, you’ll need to get there by boat or on an inflatable mat… You can walk or bike around it, even crossing a brand-new suspension bridge. The beaches are located near the parking lots (which you reach via two long staircases—if you have small children, avoid using a stroller; a baby carrier is better) and are pebbly. We’ll tell you all about it here: Lake Tenno—what colors!
Lamar Lakes
These are two small lakes surrounded by woods, in the shadow of Paganella: Lago Santo and Lago di Lamar. The latter is the most popular, thanks to the vine that lets you take some awesome dives! Plus, the best swimmers can easily reach the rock face on the opposite shore from the beach, climb up, and dive off the cliff! In short, it’s a place for real Tarzans! You can also go stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). There are two places to grab a bite nearby. The walk connecting the two lakes is lovely. We’ll tell you all about it in our article “The Lamar Lakes: What a Spectacle!”
Lakes of Piazze and Serraia
Looking for other lakes where you can swim in Trentino? Then what about Pinè, with the Piazze di Serraia lakes (connected by a beautiful, flat walking path)? Lake Piazze, with its playground and sandbox right on the shore, is a popular destination for anyone looking to escape the city’s sweltering heat.
Lake Ledro
Another very popular lake for spending a lovely day swimming and playing is Lake Ledro. There are four beaches: Besta—the largest (with a playground, volleyball courts, a bar, a convenience store, and ample parking)—, Mezzolago (small but with a charming playground for little ones), Pieve (with direct access from the campgrounds, various bars and restaurants, boat rentals, and water sports schools), and Pur (which also has a playground, restaurants, and plenty of green space, though the beaches here are a bit less accessible). Here’s where to find more information: Lake Ledro
Lake Roncone
Lake Roncone is located in the Chiese Valley, not far from Tione. It’s small but offers recreational opportunities for everyone. In the summer, in addition to taking a refreshing swim and enjoying a picnic in the cool air, you’ll find a small pool with water play features, a diving platform, and a lovely bike path. Find out more in the article “Having Fun at Lake Roncone”
Lake Idro
We could consider it the “little brother” of Lake Garda… This lake, whose northern end lies in the Trentino region, is a favorite summer destination for those who visit the Valle del Chiese. In addition to various water sports, here you can also go paragliding (it’s one of the most famous spots for this sport in the country), discover the secrets of the native flora and fauna in the nature reserve right on the lake’s shores, or simply sunbathe, go for a swim, or take a boat ride. We’ve been there several times, including on a bike ride along the Ciclovia dei Fiori, which connects the Brenta Dolomites with Lake Idro. Discover it here: Lake Idro: Sports and Relaxation

Lake Lavarone
Beaches, public swimming areas, diving boards, pedal boats, and pleasant trails that are even stroller-friendly. Lake Lavarone has everything you need for a wonderful day at the beach, especially on the hottest days. In fact, the lake is located at an elevation of about 1,000 meters. Lake Lases
A charming body of water at the head of the Cembra Valley, Lake Lases is extremely popular for refreshing summer swims. There are several beaches, but the one most popular with families is the large grassy area, where children have plenty of space to run and play andthe water deepens more gradually. Lake Lagolo
It’s the smallest of the swimming lakes in Trentino. It’s a lovely spot for a day outdoors. Children can play on the lawn, and it’s an ideal spot for a nice picnic. There are two places to grab a bite to eat. Be sure to visit in the fall and winter, too: the leaves and ice make it special 365 days a year. For more information: Lagolo: 365 Days at the Lake
Lake Cavedine
If you’re looking for a peaceful lake where you can introduce your kids to windsurfing, Lake Cavedine is the perfect spot for you. It’s located in the Marocche di Dro area, a half-hour drive from Trento and Riva del Garda. The water is a bit chilly, but as we all know, when kids are having fun, they don’t really mind! There are two beaches, right next to each other. You can rent water sports equipment and even get help from an instructor. There’s also a large lawn with a few spring-loaded playground structures, a bar, a restaurant, and free parking. If you have very young children in a stroller, you can take them for a nice stroll along the lakeside promenade. Here’s the information: Sports and Relaxation at Lake Cavedine
