The Bondone is the mountain near the city of Trento; it’s just a few minutes’ drive away and offers consistently beautiful views and a wide range of winter activities: downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ski mountaineering. Rounding out the offerings are numerous training facilities: ski schools and ski instructors (HERE), as well as restaurants, shops, and events. Although this area reaches nearly 2,000 meters in elevation, it is also accessible by public transportation and the ski bus, making it attractive to many families as well as younger people without their own cars.
VIOTE
The Viote Plain, at an altitude of 1,600 meters, is ideal for those who want to hike, sled, cross-country ski, and have fun at the beautiful all-wood playground. We’ll tell you all about it HERE. But below, we’ll also give you a few more ideas for activities in the area.
Nordic skiing enthusiasts will love this area: 37 kilometers of trails for freestyle and classic techniques at an altitude of about 1,600 meters, at the foot of the Tre Cime del Monte Bondone. Plus, you can take advantage of the Super Nordic Skipass: the first and largest cross-country skiing circuit in Italy. A single ski pass grants access to 1,000 kilometers of trails in Trentino, Veneto, and Emilia-Romagna.
Snowshoes are another great way to explore the area and the Cristallo Ski and Snowboard Instructors offer guided snowshoe hikes that will take your breath away (in every sense) as well as ski and snowboard lessons for adults and children. For information and reservations, call 380 6328814 or email info@maestriscicristallo.it.
For those who’d like to take a nice walk (which will also give you a chance to admire the reflective sphere of the famous “Terrazza delle stelle,” managed by MUSE), we recommend this one HERE.
VASON
For those who love alpine skiing, Bondone offers a ski area with over 70 hectares of skiable terrain, featuring a wide range of difficulty levels and areas for children (you can also try the Rocce Rosse chairlift, which covers a vertical drop of 809 meters in just over 7 minutes (it has the greatest elevation gain of any chairlift in all of Europe).
Two evenings a week, the lifts are normally open in the evening as well. The Montesel chairlift is a modern, six-seat chairlift with automatic clamping that will take you to an elevation of 1,726 in no time. Find all the information HERE.
