Lavis is a town that places a strong emphasis on families and community services. A long-standing holder of the “Family in Trentino” certification, it offers numerous attractions for young and old alike, as well as organizing many events, including the well-known “Porteghi e Spiazzi” in July and the Lazzera Fair in the spring and winter. Here’s a quick guide to what you can do in Lavis with children, including parks, walks, points of interest, and cultural events. For more information about the town and its latest offerings , visit the official website or follow the Facebook page, which is always up to date.
WALKS
Avisio River Mouth Biotope
For those who live in the area, the banks of the stream—from S. Lazzaro, where the iron bridge is located, all the way to the Foci dell’Avisio biotope, one of Trentino’s many nature reserves—offer a wealth of opportunities. Here, people go jogging, walk their dogs, take their children to dip their toes in the water, and observe the flora and fauna. The Municipality of Lavis decided to expand these possibilities by setting up, along a section of the stream’s final kilometer—before it flows into the Adige River—an open-air museum dedicated to avifauna, specifically the bird species that inhabit these areas. HERE is all the info.
Masi Hills of Avisano
Trail 464, inaugurated in 2019 by the Lavis chapter of SAT, winds through the countryside, vineyards, and—above all—the farmsteads of the Avisian Hills, the pride of the Municipality of Lavis. It’s a loop trail that takes a few hours to complete, but you can also take shorter sections that offer lovely surprises, especially in the spring or fall, with vibrant colors and unique views of the Rotaliana Plain, through which the Adige River flows. HERE is all the information.
Ciucioi Garden
The Giardino dei Ciucioi in Lavis features a series of artificial terraces—partly carved into the rock—on which structures have been built that reflect the eclectic style of the first half of the 19th century. The route you’ll follow during the guided tour winds through the various levels toward the greenhouse, the loggia, and other mysterious spaces | Info HERE
Hike around Doss Paion and the panoramic terrace
This is a loop trail just over one kilometer long that not only introduces you to the significance of the hill overlooking Lavis but also offers a 360° view of the town and the stream, all the way to the edge of the Paganella, where the Avisio flows into the Adige River. Today, you can also admire the landscape from the panoramic terrace overlooking the Avisio. Info HERE.
PLAYGROUNDS
There are several parks in Lavis that are accessible to families with children. Here are the most popular ones.
Felti Park
Located in the heart of a new residential area—we told you about it HERE when it was created in 2017. The playground equipment is still there, including the much-loved pulley; what has changed is the name—it’s now called “Gianni Rodari Park”—and the fact that there’s now a lovely shaded area with benches and fountains. It’s located on Via Felti, next to the preschool.
Furli Park
In this neighborhood, which is very committed to preserving its environment and public spaces, there is a small park with a playground for children. It is located on Via dei Canopi in Pressano.
Don Paride Chiocchetti Urban Park
The beating heart of Lavis, where major events take place thanks to the covered venue, where people dance at the bocce court, where tennis is played on the courts, and where you can enjoy an aperitif in the cool evening air at the park bar. There’s also a playground and green lawns. Over the years, it has also hosted concerts and outdoor movie screenings (now, in the summer, movies are shown in the square in front of the former Clementi School).
Elmar Taxis Garden in Spiazi – San Lazzaro
The park on the outskirts of Lavis, next to the Avisio River, in the small square called “Ai spiazzi,” right below the Giardino dei Ciucioi
Various events are held in the town’s parks, especially during the summer.
CULTURE

Lavis Library and Terre d’Adige
The Lavis branch (Piazzetta degli Alpini) and the reading corners in Nave S. Rocco and Zambana offer nearly 50,000 books and other media (DVDs and audiobooks) for loan, including 16,000 for children. There are many weekly events organized for children and families. Find all the details HERE.
The library organizes many events, including some in collaboration with other organizations and the volunteer readers from “Nati per leggere.” In the summer, there’s the wonderful event “Stories in the Open Air,” an initiative designed for children ages 3 and up featuring read-aloud sessions! After the reading, to refresh both mind and heart, there will be an opportunity to buy some delicious ice cream for children and their companions, as an ice cream truck loaded with every flavor imaginable will be on site at the event locations.
Municipal Auditorium
It is a small theater located directly below the library in Piazzetta degli Alpini. It can seat about 200 people and serves as the venue for the theater festival organized by the Trentino Theater Coordination, and—starting in 2023—will also host the programming of the former Astra cinema. It also hosts recitals, cultural evenings, and many other local events. HERE is the dedicated Facebook page.
FOR THE LITTLE ONES
The rounded corner
A series of initiatives for children: activities, workshops, and events for children ages 0 to 6. HERE you can find them all. We’d like to highlight the “Family Space,” which is not just a physical space but also offers ongoing meetings with experts.
