Things to Do in Rovereto with Kids

Published on 6 March 2026 by Alessandra Prandi

What to do in Rovereto with kids? Rovereto is also known as the “City of the Oak.” Its Latin name is “Roboretum” means “oak grove,” referring to the forest that once stood next to the ancient settlement. Rovereto is a small town full of events and interesting places. But that’s not all: Rovereto is also the “City of Peace,” as evidenced by the large Bell of the Fallen , cast from the bronze of cannons belonging to the nations that fought in World War I. With its 100 chimes every evening, it spreads a universal message of peace.

Another great thing about this city is that, in addition to traveling by car, you can also easily reach it by train, getting off at the central station, which is just a few dozen meters from the historic center. So here are some ideas for things to do in Rovereto with children, based on our in-depth knowledge of the area.

Rovereto Civic Museum Foundation

Both locations of this museum are in the city center. The Museum of Science and Archaeology is sure to be of interest to children: many of its galleries have recently been redesigned, with the addition of digital and interactive exhibits. Here, visitors can open drawers, watch videos projected in innovative ways, touch, and smell… For more information, click on Fondazione Museo Civico Rovereto

Rovereto Planetarium

Without straying far, the courtyard of the Museum of Science and Archaeology is also home to the Planetarium: a circular path that takes us inside a spaceship traveling to the Moon, through the Solar System, and on a journey of discovery through constellations, nebulae, and celestial bodies—all thanks to the stories of women who, since ancient times, have devoted themselves to observing and studying space. At the center is a large dome onto which the night sky is projected using an innovative full-dome system. Showings take place every weekend. Before you leave, don’t forget to take a photo on the lunar rover! Find out all the details here: Rovereto: Wow! Digital Planetarium

The tour that begins at the Planetarium can be rounded out with stargazing and solar observation at the Astronomical Observatory located on Mount Zugna. Information on opening hours and how to get there can be found HERE at the Mount Zugna Observatory: click to learn more.

MART

Let’s wrap up our tour of the museums with the MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Located on Corso Bettini, just a short walk from the historic center and the city parks, it’s a must-see for its contemporary architecture and colorful exhibits that will capture even children’s imaginations. Every Sunday, there’s also Little Mart, a unique experience where children can play and experiment with the languages of art through activities that encourage active participation in museum life. You can find more information at At MART with the Kids

Depero Futurist Art House

The Casa Depero is also part of the MART circuit; it houses the colorful works of Depero and his “workshop”: paintings, design objects, and marionettes, all in the geometric and colorful style that distinguishes this artist and the artistic movement he represents. Read our story Depero Futurist Art House.

Paleontological Site at Lavini di Marco

The Marco Fossil Tracks are one of the most important and spectacular paleontological sites in Europe. Here you can see the footprints of many dinosaurs that lived during the early Jurassic period (about 200 million years ago). You’ll find dozens of footprints, of various shapes and sizes, imprinted along a steep ravine about 200 meters long on the slopes of Mount Zugna, south of Rovereto. From spring through fall, the Museum of Science and Archaeology organizes numerous tours and activities (info and reservations: 0464 452800 – museo@fondazionemcr.it ). Hermitage of San Colombano

The Hermitage of San Colombano, located 3 kilometers from the city in the municipality of Trambileno, is an architectural marvel built into the rock. It’s a 15-minute walk from the parking lot on the state highway leading to Vicenza. A short descent through the greenery of the valley carved out by the Leno stream, a small bridge, and there you’ll find the 102-step staircase that quickly leads to your destination: the sanctuary dedicated to the young knight who, according to legend, slew the dragon that was causing the deaths of children baptized in the stream’s waters. We recommend checking the opening hours HERE or sending an email to eremosancolombano@gmail.com. Read “At the Hermitage of San Colombano.”

Bell of the Fallen

One of the best things to do in Rovereto with kids is to explore one of the city’s landmarks, the Bell of the Fallen. Cast from the bronze of cannons from the nations that fought in World War I, it is the world’s largest bell that rings continuously (currently undergoing restoration, so it is not in operation). Every evening at sunset, its hundred chimes serve as a call for universal peace, carrying great symbolic significance.

Historic Center

Piazza Rosmini with its fountain, Palazzo del Bene with its Venetian-style Renaissance architecture and paintings depicting the seasons, passing through Via degli Orefici, Piazza Nettuno, and Via delle Mercerie. The Church of San Marco is well worth a visit. You can round out your tour of the city with a pleasant stroll along the Leno.

Monteghello Tour

The Giro del Monteghello is a lovely walk—especially in the spring and summer—that starts right in the historic center and will take you to discover hidden views of the city. It’s a beautiful, roughly 3-hour hike, but don’t let the slightly steep first stretch deter you! HERE is the story of our experience.

City Forest

A green forest oasis that stretches behind the historic center. Perfect for nature walks without leaving the city. Here you’ll also find Sperimentarea, run by the Rovereto Civic Museum Foundation, and during the summer, various activities for young children are held here. We’ll tell you all about it in Rovereto: The City Forest

Guerrieri Gonzaga Park

Located in Villa Lagarina, this garden offers peace and relaxation to all who visit it… Rose gardens, vegetable garden plants, exotic plants, hunting lodges, and even a small pond with ducks. During the warmer months, the park also regularly hosts art exhibitions, organized in collaboration with MART. Read Guerrieri Gonzaga Park
