A truly lovely educational trail that unfolds in seven stages, where history, nature, and legend intertwine. This forest on the outskirts of the city is located in the Aslago neighborhood (Bolzano), near Castel Flavon. All the details here: Il Bosco dei Bricconi in Bolzano.

Child-Friendly Castles and Museums in Bolzano

Bolzano is also a city with a vibrant cultural scene, full of events and activities even for the youngest visitors. Here is a complete list of the most interesting museums for families: Museums in Bolzano: Which Ones to Visit with Children

Castel Roncolo

In Bolzano, there’s a truly special castle that’s perfect even when it rains: Castel Roncolo! Famous for housing the largest cycle of secular medieval frescoes in Europe, it’s an ideal destination for the whole family. You can reach it on foot with a half-hour stroll along the Talvera River, starting from the city center. Our experience Castel Roncolo in Bolzano.

South Tyrol Archaeological Museum

You can’t pass through Bolzano without stopping by to visit Ötzi, the Iceman. Three floors dedicated to exploring every detail of this great discovery and the life led by the Man from Similaun. All the information Ötzi, the Man from the Ice.

South Tyrol Museum of Natural History

This museum has a truly remarkable tropical aquarium containing 9,000 liters of water, as well as fish and invertebrates from the coral reef. It features several fascinating interactive exhibits that help visitors learn more about the environment around us. It frequently hosts events, workshops, and exhibitions. Ropework Systems

Not everyone knows this, but there are not one, but two cable cars that depart from downtown Bolzano, allowing visitors to reach the hills that surround the city and shield it from the cold during the winter months in just a few minutes.

Colle Cable Car

For us, the real discovery was the old cable car that takes you up to 1,000 meters above Bolzano, to the hill that the people of Bolzano consider the city’s green lung. You can reach the Bolzano Hill by car (it’s 9 kilometers away) or, as we did and as we recommend, by cable car. Fun fact? This cable car is the oldest in the world—it’s 112 years old! Here’s what you can do on Bolzano Hill.

Renon Plateau

Famous for its little train (HERE is our experience), the Renon can also be reached by the cable car that connects Bolzano to Soprabolzano, with departures every 4 minutes. Up here, there are truly countless opportunities for walks, hikes, and treks. The Renon Plateau is, in fact, a particularly family-friendly destination. We’ve compiled a list of the best things to do up here in an article: Summer on the Renon with Kids.

San Genesio

Please note: The cable car is currently closed (scheduled to reopen in 2028)! On the San Genesio Plateau, you can take relaxing walks surrounded by nature. We’ve walked the Trail of Legends several times — the Guggn Trail and the St. Martin’s Trail.

Sports with Children in Bolzano

Climbing

In the center of Bolzano stands Italy’s largest indoor climbing gym: the Salewa Cube. At the entrance to the gym is a huge door that, weather permitting, remains open to give climbers the feeling of climbing outdoors.

Bolzano Swimming Pool

And if it rains, the pool is always a great option! Here, the most energetic kids will find a big slide, while there’s a mini pool for the little ones. Read “Bolzano’s Pool: A Wonderful Discovery.”
