The Val di Rabbi in the fall, with the colors of the larch trees making it even more beautiful, is a true paradise. We’re in one of the few valleys in Trentino that doesn’t have any ski lifts. Its distinctive feature, if anything, is the presence of traditional stone-and-wood farmsteads and the many postcard-perfect views. There are so many places here waiting to be discovered—even in the fall!
Want some ideas? Here’s what you can do in Val di Rabbi this fall:
Listen to the bellowing of the deer
A unique experience for children ages 8 and up. From mid-September to early October, three events to admire the deer in rut and listen to their unmistakable calls. Meet at 7:00 p.m. at the Stelvio National Park headquarters for a brief explanation of the characteristics of various ungulates and the mating behavior of deer. After a short walk, you’ll reach a restaurant/mountain hut for dinner. Finally, we’ll venture into the woods with headlamps. Here, with the help of special binoculars, you’ll be able to observe the deer up close. A special experience, even for the youngest children, as you discover what is perhaps the most authentic side of the Val di Rabbi in the fall. Info and reservations: Listen to the deer’s bellow

Cycling on the new bike path
A three-kilometer paved bike and pedestrian path from San Bernardo to Rabbi Fonti that can be traveled by both bicycle and stroller. The path slopes slightly upward toward Rabbi Fonti, but is easily manageable even for young children. The route runs alongside the Rabbies stream and crosses several wooden bridges, allowing you to take your time and enjoy the mountain scenery and the high-altitude hamlets. On an e-bike, you can also continue on to reach other spots in the valley, such as Malga Stablasolo or Malga Monte Sole. To learn more about exploring the Val di Rabbi by e-bike, read: Val di Rabbi by E-Bike

Discover the playgrounds of the Rabbi Valley
In this peaceful valley, children rediscover the joy of running, jumping, and having fun surrounded by nature. And if they find playgrounds as beautiful as these, even better! Here are our children’s favorites:
- SAN BERNARDO PLAYGROUND: a fantastic playground with a pond featuring rafts, water play features, and a unique giant bear-shaped climbing structure! The best part? You can bring your own lunch and enjoy it at one of the picnic tables for a day of pure relaxation! All the info: Rabbi: The amazing playground in San Bernardo

- PLAYGROUND IN PLAN: In Plan—where the RV park is also located, just a few minutes from the Tibetan bridge—there’s another playground we really love, themed as an “eagle’s nest”: a large climbing tower, a zip line, rings, and a nest to climb on… everything needed to let the kids burn off their boundless energy. We talked about it in From the Tibetan Bridge to Malga Fratte

Visit one of the mountain huts that remain open until late fall
- MALGA MONTE SOLE: a beautiful mountain hut nestled amid the warm autumn colors of Val Cercen, a side valley of Val di Rabbi. You can reach it with a pleasant walk or even by e-bike. There, Simone will be waiting to delight you with tasty first and second courses prepared with local ingredients. Open daily through October 20 (except Tuesdays). Read Rabbi: At Malga Monte Sole

- MALGA POLINAR. This mountain hut will also have new management starting in 2025. It’s easily reached in an hour and a half from the Fontanon parking lot (the access road to the parking lot is open to cars until September 28 and then on weekends through October 12). The menu is small but the dishes are delicious and cooked with love, and there are plenty of animals for the kids to pet. In the fall, they also serve chestnuts, paired with a nice glass of wine and apple juice. Highly recommended! Here’s the info: At Malga Polinar in Val di Rabbi

- MALGA STABLASOLO. Perfectly situated for taking in the entire valley, this mountain hut is located just twenty minutes from the Saènt waterfalls. You can get there with a pleasant walk starting from the Colèr parking lot, or even by bike. Perfect for those who want to enjoy the colors of the Val di Rabbi in the fall! Open until November 2 Malga Stablasolo in Val di Rabbi

- MALGA FRATTE. For those venturing toward the suspension bridge, the best way to continue the day is to walk through the woods—surrounded by silence and the scents of autumn—to Malga Fratte. Outside, there’s plenty of space to play, but above all, if the weather happens to be a bit gloomy, there’s nothing better than enjoying a nice little lunch behind the large windows that offer a stunning view of the entire landscape. Open daily through mid-October and then on weekends through November 2. Read more here: From the Tibetan Bridge to Malga Fratte

Go on a nice hike
The Animal Trail and the Valorz Waterfalls
Looking for a nice hike in Val di Rabbi this fall? Here it is! The trail starts near the San Bernardo playground and takes about two hours to reach the Valorz waterfalls. The trail is dotted with sculptures of wild animals made from intertwined branches by a local sculptor: among them are a fox, a wolf, and an owl. It’s not suitable for strollers. Find all the details here: The Splendid Valorz Waterfalls in Rabbi.

Suspension Bridge
A peaceful and easy walk that starts at the valley floor, where you can explore the old sawmills, and leads to the famous suspension bridge over the Ragaiolo River. Here you can experience the thrill of walking 60 meters above the riverbed. The void stretches out beneath your feet (the bridge deck is made of metal grating), and the waterfalls lie right before you! Pure magic—but… best avoided if you’re afraid of heights. Discovering Places Rich in Tradition
Ruatti Mill
A visit to the Ruatti Mill is very interesting and can be arranged by reservation for small groups. It is an old watermill with an adjoining house-museum. The machinery is still in working order and is powered by the water from the Rabies stream. Visiting the Ruatti Mill is a bit like stepping into the life of a 19th-century miller, and it’s definitely a wonderful experience for children to enjoy.
